24th August 2018 - New report - Scottish Burden of Disease Study, 2016 - Deprivation report

The Scottish Burden of Disease (SBoD) study team has published a new report that outlines how what we are living with and dying from is impacted by health inequalities. Around half of health burden in Scotland is due to people living in ill health (and half due to early death). Nearly a third (32.9%) of early deaths and ill health in Scotland could be avoided if the whole population had the same life circumstances as the people who live in our wealthiest areas. Early death and illnesses associated with the things that harm our health the most, like drugs, tobacco, poor diet, alcohol and mental health, are far more common in our poorest areas. A lot of these are preventable.

The SBoD 2016 Deprivation report is available from the Burden of Disease area of the ScotPHO website.
