Diet and nutrition: salt consumption

The Assessment of dietary sodium levels in the general population - Scotland, was updated in March 2016. There was a linear decrease in salt intake between 2006 and 2014 of approximately 13%. In 2014, the mean estimated salt intake for adults was 7.8g per day, with a mean of 8.6g per day among men and 6.9g per day among women. Overall, two-thirds of the population had a daily intake higher than the recommended 6g per day. There was no statistically significant differences in salt intake between Scotland and England for the 2014 surveys for all adults.
