Epilepsy: mortality data

Epilepsy was certified as the underlying cause in 116 deaths in Scotland in 2021 (Table 1). Chart 1 shows the number of epilepsy deaths in Scotland between 2008 and 2021. Although there is a relatively small numbers of deaths, there has been an overall upward trend over the last 10 years, with higher numbers of deaths in males than females.
