Religion, spirituality and belief: Age
The Scottish Surveys Core Questions (SSCQ) provides a breakdown of religion by age. In 2019, the surveys found that:
- The majority of people across all age groups except for age groups 65-74 and 75+ reported having no religion.
- Around 40% of those reporting no religion, and just under half of those reporting Islam as their religion, were aged under 35 years, compared with 10% of those reporting they were Church of Scotland.
- Amongst people aged 65-74 and 75+, the majority reported Church of Scotland as their religion. Approximately two thirds of those reporting their religion as Church of Scotland were 55 years or older.
