Disability: data introduction

The following disability data pages focus on:

  • the percentage of adults of working-age in receipt of Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).
  • estimates of the percentage of adults (16 and over) in Scotland with a limiting long-term physical or mental health condition or illness.
  • estimates of the percentage of adults in Scotland reporting that they are in bad/very bad health.

Please refer to the key data sources page for an indication of where additional disability related information may be accessed.

Note also that some relevant data (e.g. adults unable to work due to illness/disability, disability living allowance, attendance allowance claimants, long-term limiting illness, self-assessed health classified as bad/very bad) are included within the ScotPHO Online Profiles Tool (held within this website).

The table below shows the dimensions and geographies for which disability data are presented within the data pages which follow.
