Asthma: mortality data

Data on mortality from asthma are published by National Records of Scotland, (formerly the General Register Office for Scotland) within their Vital Events Reference Tables (data table 6.01). Chart 1 shows the annual number of deaths in Scotland where asthma was the underlying cause. With the exception of a peak between 2015 and 2018, deaths from asthma amongst males and females has been relatively consistent across the last decade, with minor fluctuations. However, the death rate is consistently higher amongst females than males across the entire period.

Please note: If you require the most up-to-date data available, please check the data sources directly as new data may have been published since these data pages were last updated. Although we endeavour to ensure that the data pages are kept up-to-date, there may be a time lag between new data being published and the relevant ScotPHO web pages being updated.
